Master’s thesis at the Institute of Control Systems (IRS) on the topic “Bi-level-based Inverse Stochastic Optimal Control “(2023). Member of the scientific staff of IRS since September 2023.

Trajectory planning with consideration of motion sickness

Highly automated vehicles have the potential to fundamentally transform our mode of transportation. They promise increased safety, efficiency, and convenience for individual mobility. To enhance the general acceptance of such vehicles and make highly automated driving a norm in the future, it is crucial that motion planning in these vehicles is designed to be pleasant and comfortable for passengers. This is necessary because passengers in autonomous vehicles may experience sensory motion conflicts due to their reduced focus on traffic, which can lead to motion sickness, causing nausea, dizziness, and other discomforting symptoms. The primary aim of my research is to develop the motion planning within an automation architecture with a focus on optimizing the comfort of the passenger.
