Software updates and distribution in OT mechatronic systems

The amount of software and the functionality it provides in mechatronic systems is constantly growing. As the scope increases, so does the probability of errors. At the same time, communication links, including to IT systems, are increasingly being implemented in these systems. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) can be mentioned here as an example. Particularly in the area of communication, software errors, e.g. in the form of security gaps, can become known well after the system acceptance, making it necessary to update the device software after the commissioning phase. High availability requirements in the OT area, very long device life cycles and high economic damage in the event of system failures result in special requirements for the software update process compared to other areas.
