Software is a key innovation factor in all areas of life. Algorithms for control, regulation, optimization, communication and data analysis are at the heart of the development of technical systems in particular. In the Information Technology/Automation Technology lecture, students learn the basics of developing software systems. This includes architecture-related topics such as procedural or object-oriented program structures, language constructs, computer architectures and data types as well as engineering-specific aspects such as the planning of software development projects. Students also learn how to use and handle generative AI to generate program code or as an engineering assistant.

In the second part of the lecture, the fundamentals learned are transferred to the application domain of automation technology, where concrete system architectures for plants and machines are specified. The lecture is accompanied by an exercise. A workshop is also held during the semester in which students work in groups and apply their new skills and knowledge in an engineering project.
