Curriculum Vitae

Studies of mechatronics at the university of applied sciences Offenburg (Bachelor of Engineering 2011). Subsequently, studies of electrical engineering/ information technology (Master of Science 2012). Masters thesis at SEW-EURODRIVE GmbH & Co. KG , topic: „Design and implementation of a control for a three-phase power regeneration system based on a disturbance observer”. Other practical activities during the studies at the Hiwin GmbH and the SICK AG. From 2012 until 2017 research assistant at the IRS. From 2014 until 2016 assistant lecturer at the university of applied sciences Heilbronn. Since 2018 leader of the research group for Alternative Energy Systems at the IRS.

Research

Taking a look at the expected changes in the energy system (of Germany), one can already see emerging technical challenges today. Due to the reduction of big generation plants, for example due to the nuclear phaseout and the increasing number of solar and wind farms, the decentralization of the generation is proceeding. Additionally, those renewable source have the property that the amount of energy that is produced far away from the consumers is increasing and that this production is volatile. A further challenge consists in the loss of the rotating masses of the big power plants which had a stabilizing effect on the line frequency.

However, the change of the energy system offers also some new flexibilities.  For instance, an increasing coupling between the electricity sector, the heat sector and the gas sector can be expected. Additionally, an increase in the number of battery storage systems installed in combination with PV systems or as storages for electric drives can be observed.

The research group for Alternative Energy Systems is developing methods which use those new flexibilities to meet the arising challenges.

Besides of the operation of those multi-carrier energy systems, the safe operation of battery storage systems is one of the main foci of the research activities.
